How Refreshing Is Your Beverage of Choice?

Posted in Food and Drink

The word refreshment has been used for years to point to the positive impact that the right drink at the right time can have on our state of mind and feeling of wellbeing. On a hot day, a cool refreshing drink is practically a religious experience.

Refreshment should be more than a mere cold temperature, however. The determination of whether a drink is refreshing or not should hinge on how it makes us feel in our bodies in the minutes following the swallows that felt so good.

When you bring in how a drink makes us feel in the 30 minutes to an hour after we drink it, you’ll quickly notice that any drink that takes us on a sugar-induced roller coaster is out of the running. If our energy spikes and then crashes, we weren’t refreshed. We were drugged!

If a beverage is to be truly refreshing, it will have to fulfill several criteria: 1) it should cause no sugar-fueled roller coaster rides; 2) it should have a delicious flavor as we drink it 3) it should leave our body in better condition than before we had the drink 4) it should hydrate us so we are less thirsty after having the drink.

With these criteria in mind, the best beverage you could possibly drink is water.

Following behind it are iced green tea, iced herbal teas, kombucha, fresh vegetable juice (particularly juices with lots of cucumber) and coconut water.

Isabellas Pizza
This establishment is a new business to Baton Rouge from Covington, Louisiana. Another fine example of great New Orleans restaurants reaching out to Baton Rouge. They make all their own ingredients and have a very wide variety of paninis, pasta, calzones, meatballs, pizza and desserts. Much of the food as a Mediterranean flair beyond the Italian. It’s very unique and great. Highly recommended.

Tsunami Sushi
Fried alligator sushi?!? You have to order this sushi because I’m sure you will never find alligator in a Japanese restaurant in California. You might be a little skeptical, but who cares, its all about eating and living life!
